Alyssa Hooks

Alyssa has been involved in forensics for eight years, starting her freshman year of high school at Barbers Hill High School in Mont Belvieu, Texas. She is a senior at the University of Arkansas-Monticello, where she is finishing a degree in communications. With her college degree, she plans on doing research into disability rhetoric and becoming a communications professor. In high school, Alyssa did LD and Domestic Extemp, qualifying for TFA State her junior and senior year. In college, Alyssa was half of the second-place winning Team IPDA season long winners and tied for team season long speaker. When Alyssa started coaching her first year out, she realized the importance of working hard, even from a coach’s perspective. In that, she coached kids in LD and PF to the TOC and NSDA Nationals, as well as policy teams to TFA and UIL State elims. Now, she is the assistant coach at Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in Houston for both LD and PF. Alyssa believes that debate is a wonderful place for individuals to become advocates for themselves and the causes they believe in, as well as understand the importance of communication skills and rhetoric.
